It was disappointing to see the use of the Confederate flag used as a symbol of patriotism and more disappointing to see that this boat won "Most Patriotic". I am hopeful that the boat's owners and the judges did not intend to offend but I am curious as to why this symbol of America's division over slavery and racism was used (and has been used in past parades) on a day that is meant to celebrate our country's unity.
