Ice going out of Lipsett Lake

I've had a number of emails asking me to let people know when there is "Ice Out" on Lipsett Lake.  So --- I'm going to try to remember to post a picture every day so you can all watch with me as the ice goes out on Lipsett Lake.  Here is the first one.

April 27, 2013
High Temperature was 71 and it was sunny

 April 28, 2013
High Temperature was 72 and it was overcast
(so the water doessn't look blue)
SW wind at 11 gusting to 27
The snow on top of the ice is melting and the ice is wet,
so it's a little harder to see -- but it still covers most of the lake.
It's open water right in front of our house and, I imagine,
most of the area along the shoreline all around the lake.

O.K. - I just couldn't help it.
This picture was taken late this afternoon (4/28/13)
The ice was turning black -- that's a good sign!
And then this evening, Don and I spent our first evening this year on the screened porch.
It was raining and thundering -- a really nice spring "storm",
And now there is fog across the lake -- wish I could take a picture but it's too dark.
I don't know - but it's possible we could have ice-out by Fishing Opener.
Stay tuned!
The lake can be a really exciting place to be sometimes!

 April 29, 2013
Temperature is 64 and it's sunny
I'm sure the ice is getting thinner, but there is still a lot out there.
We were told that there were people ice fishing on Benoit Lake (near here) yesterday.
They said the ice was "squishy" around the edges but plenty thick in the middle.

April 30, 2013
The first of these two pictures was taken this morning, facing northeast.
The second picture shows that the ice is moving north and east because of a
southwest wind blowing all afternoon.

The good news is - the ice is moving around and gradually leaving the lake.
The bad news is,
it's 32 degrees and snowing!

 May 1, 2013
The good news is - the ice is moving around and gradually leaving the lake.
The bad news is, it's 32 degrees and snowing!
This is all that's left on our side of the lake -- but there is a lot on the other side of the lake
and the wind could whip up and move it anywhere.
However, there is less ice every day.

 May 2, 2013 -- 9:30 AM
There's no sun shining, so I can't see the ice from our house at all.
Just wanted you to see this picture so you will know what you are missing
if you aren't here.
4" of snow and 30 degrees on May 2.
Unbelievable!!

Most of the ice is in the south bay right now -- the bay where the boat ramp is --
and along the west shore.!
Don drove down there and says there is no way to put a boat in Lipsett Lake right now.
I'll let you know how it's looking tomorrow.

I went down to take a picture of the ice at the boat landing,

and while I was there a DNR truck put a boat in -
breaking the ice as it went

and he took off, we assume to put out nets,

May 3, 2013
and then when I got home, our dock guys were here putting
in the dock!!
They said if they didn't get started, they would still be
putting them out in July!
Just hope the next picture I add to his blog isn't a picture
of our dock broken up by the remaining ice being blown this way!
(Don says that won't happen)
At least we have the honor of being the
second dock put in on Lipsett Lake this spring!
Maybe we're the second dock in all of
Northern Wisconsin!!
Themperature high AND low for today is 32
AND it's snowing again!!!!!!
