EMERGENCY BURNING RESTRICTIONS HAVE BEEN ENACTED
INFORMATION REVISED MARCH 11, 2012
INFORMATION REVISED MARCH 11, 2012
The fire danger in Washburn County and Northwestern Wisconsin rose to "Very High, and the DNR announced burning restrictions will be in place starting Friday, April 6, 2012. No burning will be allowed north of Hwy. 70 and west of Hwy. 53, the blow-down area, starting Friday, April 6, 2012.
WHY?
On July 1, 2011 a fierce windstorm impacted Northwest Wisconsin. With winds in excess of 100 mph, the devastation to our forests was great. While clean up contInues from this event, a tremendous amount of down timber remains. The wildfire hazard created by the downed timber is tremendous. Coupled with our dry, sandy soils, pine habitat, residential development in the wildland and and recent droughty weather, the risk of a large, destructive wildfire is great! These restrictions will be enacted to protect the people, homes and forests of Northwest Wisconsin.
THE COST OF WILDFIRES:
- The citation or fine for violating Emergency Burning Restrictions $175.30
- Anyone who causes a wildland fire is responsible to pay all supression costs and may be held liable for any damages done by the fire
Per NR 30.05, when Emergency Burning Restrictions are enacted, it is illegal to:
- Burn brush, leaves, debris, household waste outside.
- Build a campfire in any manner, except at a commercial campground.
- Smoke a pipe, cigar or cigarette outdoors, except at a place of residence or in a vehicle equipped with an ash tray.
- Throw matches, ashes, or burning material from a vehicle.
- Burn ANY combustale material outdoors, including fireworks, within the area designed for Emergency Burning Restrictions
If your neighbors do not receive emails from the Lake Association, please be sure they are aware of these restrictions.
I will let you know when and/or if these restrictions are lifted.
