The four zebra mussel plate samplers that were placed on docks around the lake were all taken out in the last week or so and the only shelled creatures found were snails and a few limpets. No zebra mussels!! Also, Aaron Tempel checked dock posts and lifts Saturday during the "Dock Out" fund raiser and likewise found no zebra mussels. So, the good news is it appears that Lipsett Lake has once again dodged the bullet and avoided zebra mussel introduction to our lake. Hopefully next season, with the pressure washing station fully operational for the entire season, we can continue keeping zebra mussels at bay. Special thanks to Sally Nelsen, Chuck and Sandy Edwards, Bob and Ruth Baker, and Mark and Stephanie Spease for placing the plate samplers on their docks this season.
Update on the pressure washing station: Several weeks ago Tom Boehne, Chuck Edwards, Rob Bultinck, and Bob Baker securely mounted the metal box that will house the pressure washer (see attached photos) on a concrete pad. The next step will be to place 6 inch concrete-filled steel pipes, called bollards, around the box to protect the well head, metal box, and pressure washer from damage by trucks and trailers. It appears that the entire system probably won't be in operation until the spring 2022 fishing season. Based on data from Stone Lake, which put in a similar pressure washing station late last year, compliance with the decontamination ordinance improved significantly when their system was operational. Apparently over 90% of lake users decontaminated as the law requires. We will hope for perhaps even better compliance.
