LAKE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE REPORT
(Fall, 2020)
Clean Boats Clean Waters: Labor Day, September 7, is the last day that our Clean Boats, Clean Waters inspector, Kathy Hudson will be working this season. If you take your boat out Labor Day weekend, please stop by and thank her for her service this summer. In addition to inspecting boats entering and leaving our lake, Kathy was also in charge of reminding lake users of the Burnett County ordinance that requires decontamination when entering and exiting a lake when pump sprayers are available. Kathy did an outstanding job with this and even had to report 4 violators who refused to decontaminate before entering Lipsett Lake. The violations were reported to the Sheriff, who sent warnings to these individuals. None of the 4 violators had repeat offenses on our lake. If they had, the fines for any subsequent offenses would be $150 for the first repeat offense, $250, for the second, and $350 for the third with added court costs of approximately $150 with each citation.
Statistics generated by Kathy on weekends show that about 70% of the boats entering the lake decontaminated with the bleach spray before entering. Many of the 30% that did not decontaminate were people who told her that they were Lipsett Lake property owners. Please be aware that the decontamination ordinance applies to all of us on Lipsett Lake, and not just people visiting our lake to fish. You make it difficult for Kathy to do her job properly when you tell her that you do not need to spray your boat/trailer because you have a cabin on the lake. She does not know the people on our lake. Therefore, it is impossible for Kathy to know if you are really a Lipsett property owner, or someone who just fished on zebra-mussel infested Big McKenzie and are trying to avoid the “hassle” of decontaminating. The law applies to everyone, so please spray your boats each time you enter or leave our lake.
Purple Loosestrife: Weekly inspections of the southwestern shoreline, where we have had purple loosestrife occurrences in the past, have found none of this invasive species this year. We will continue our monitoring until the middle of September.
Zebra Mussels: Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, much of the DNR research on aquatic invasive was cut-back considerably this season. However, it appears that Lipsett Lake will be included in a study that will sample our lake’s calcium content to see if it suitable for zebra mussels. If that sampling is done, it will occur in September.
Fundraising Report:
Thank you to all those who have purchased the Lipsett lake tumblers, this has been our only fundraising
project this summer. We still have a few red and blue 20 ounce tumblers left. Let me know if you would
like to purchase the few remaining ones.
With this summer being out of the ordinary we decided to let everyone enjoy the lake with their families
and held off on doing an email silent auction. We know that next summer will be better (fingers
crossed) and we can have more fundraising efforts for the lake.
We will be doing dock out this fall! We have 2 weekends in mind for taking the docks out. This event
can only be possible with a large group of volunteers. Last fall (2019) we were able to remove 15 docks
and 10 lifts and raised nearly $2400. Our volunteers and their time is just as important as everyone else
at the lake and had we not had over a dozen volunteers that day, we would not have been able to
provide this service, so please consider helping out.
The 2 weekend dates we are looking to do this will be, Saturday October 10 th or Saturday October 17 th .
Please let me know your availability for volunteering for these dates.
A few updates to dock in and out:
1) The cost is still $2/foot of dock and $50 per lift.
2) If we don’t have the man power to remove your dock I will let you know a couple weeks ahead of
time so you can find an alternate source to get it removed. We are a group of volunteers and we cannot
be getting hurt while removing docks that may be too heavy or cumbersome. Also, I will deny removing
a dock if it takes us too long to remove or put it together. Again, Our time is Valuable.
3) I will send a final email out 2 weeks before the dock out date for final call for docks and lifts to come
out. I WILL NOT be adding anyone to the dock out list past that date. I value my time and the time of
our volunteers.
With that in mind, please let me know if we can take your dock or boat lift out this fall. You can email
me at: templey_41@hotmail.com
Call or text me at 507-421-7764
If you have ideas for fundraising let us know. We can’t do this alone!
