Please inspect your docks and lifts this fall for Zebra mussels

When you take out your docks and boat lifts in the next month or so, please inspect them carefully to see if any juvenile Zebra mussels are present.  Zebra mussels alway attach themselves on edge and they look like tiny hands clasped in prayer. In contrast, baby snails will appear as tiny flat-lying spirals or whorls.  If you find what you think might be zebra mussels, please contact Bob Baker (651-734-5701 (cell) or 715-635-3882 (cabin)) so that he can stop over to collect samples to take to the DNR office in Spooner for positive identification.  Clearly if Lipsett Lake ever gets zebra mussels, it would be better to discover their presence the first year and not after they have become established.
