BE BEAR AWARE!!

Charlie Edwards sent this note to remind everyone of the danger bears bring to the North Woods:

He wrote:  "last weekend a bear pulled down my Humming bird feeders in the middle of the day and 12' away from my screen porch where my father in law was taking a nap. Needless to say father in law woke up to the strange noise of the hungry bear. He came in to cabin to ask if I wanted to see this bear that liked the humming bird food.

I stood on the porch a shouted at the bear to get him to leave. He would only go a few yard away and did not seem to be threatened by me. Soooo, I brought out a small hand gun a fired off a few loud shots which got him to move up the hill a bit and then he clawed on a tree for a second or two. After that he decided to slam one of his paws into the ground and scream at me as I am sure he was pissed that I would not let him finish his free meal. I fired a few more shots off and then he got the hint and ran into the woods.

Not sure if anyone else has had any issues with these guys.

Just wanted to share"

At the south end of the lake we have a sow and three tiny cubs.  We have chased them off our property twice and the CBCW worker, Hannah, saw them on Sunday come out of Greg Heber's lower lot and head up our driveway.  There is also a yearling at this end of the lake that I've seen a couple of times.  People should probably put away their bird feeders for a while since feeders definitely attract bears.

Now -- please go to the lower right hand side of this home page and click on the "Be Bear Aware" link.  It will tell you how to stay safe and what to do if you meet up with a bear in the woods.  Bears are not afraid of you.  Stay alert and stay safe!!  Pam
