Spring 2025 lake association meeting minutes

Lipsett Lake Association Spring Meeting 2025

May 24, 2025

The general meeting of the Lipsett Lake Association was called to order by the President, Mark

Hansen, at 9:00 AM at the Lipsie Pines Tavern. Approximately 34 members were in attendance.

Committee Reports

President Report – Mark Hansen: Welcome, new lake members!

Approved Fall 2024 Meeting minutes (available at the meeting and online). Motion by Bob

Margo and seconded by Mark Schlitter.

Mary Hansen is now a director. All in favor for Mary as Director aye by Association.

Memorial Garden – Mary Hansen

 Found a company for the memorial bricks; in process of making a brochure with

information and examples.

 Mary will send out more information through Association email/blog. Goal is to have the

walkway and reflection garden done by Labor Day weekend.

 You can buy a personal brick! $100/brick, 20 characters including spaces.

 If you’re interested in volunteering for gardening or maintenance, please reach out to

Mary!

Membership Committee – Carolyn Schlitter and Julie Miller:

 53% of lake member families are current and have paid their association dues.

 $1,000 Lifetime membership also available.

 Check on the blog to see what year you’re paid up to.

 If somebody sells, please let Carolyn Schlitter know and encourage the new neighbor to

reach out to update the membership list (which is on the website).

Loon – Diane Margo:

 Loons were back as soon as the ice came out (second to last weekend of April).

 Fun facts!

o Common loon is the only loon that nests in all 50 states.

o They spend winter near the Gulf of Mexico then return to their birthplace. Loons

will also return to the same lake they previously nested in.

o Baby loons take three years to acquire their black/white plumage and don’t

make their first nest until age five.

o Loons may find new mates who are more attached to the lake than each other.

Treasury Report – Mark Schlitter:

 Financial reports sent out by Chris Snyder in advance of the meeting.

 Highlights:

o First page year-over-year comparison for 2024–2023.

o Back page is year-to-date expenses.

o Approved for the Clean Boat Clean Life 2025 for $4,000.

o Generous donation by Rick and family (thank you!). We use that money to

expand the coverage of the landing and related costs.

o Two payments will be made next month that have been previously approved

annually by association: $50 to the loon watch and $350 donation to local 4H

community (5 sponsorships).

 Received an appreciative letter from the 4H member, including a

personal thank-you from one of the campers’ parents.

o Woods of the Water sponsorship (grandfathered) at Hayward High School. Let

Mark or Jon Hansen know if you’re interested!

 $18,717 in the checkbook today. Rest is divided between CDs totaling $42,168 and

money market totaling $25,685.

 In process of creating a new Venmo account.

Motion to approve financials by Michael Miller and seconded by Jon Hansen.

Fundraising – Lisa Hansen:

Dock In: Raised about $2,000 over two weekends. 11 docks, 7 lifts and a whole bunch of

volunteers, thank you!

 In the future, please inform Lisa whether you have a dock only or dock AND lift.

Can Koozies: $5/each. Great for Christmas and stocking stuffers.

Fourth of July Events:

 Pancake breakfast: Friday, July 4 at 8:30–10:30 AM

 Boat parade: Saturday, July 5 at 1 PM counterclockwise starting at outlet.

Road Cleanup:

Thank you for everyone who showed up! Great way to get exercise and allow people of all

abilities to get involved.

REMEMBER: Fundraising should accommodate a variety of interests on the lake. We need to

get young people and kids involved to show how special the lake is to them and everyone on

the lake.

Reach out to Lisa Hansen about other ideas.

Lake Management – John Hansen:

 Bryan, Jonah, Kathy, and Jesse will cover the landing through Labor Day weekend. Treat

them with respect as they are working to help our lake!

 Electrical issue that Jon needs additional help with; breaker has tripped a few times.

Either the box needs to be replaced or need to figure out how to prevent water from

hitting the outlet. If no one knows how, will hire an electrician.

 Beaver trouble! They had started to affect access to the landing. The beavers are being

taken care of and the issue is being addressed.

 Consider fishing limit on the lake to respect the fishing quality and resources. (For

example, in MN, if you reach your limit one day, you can’t be in possession of or

transporting over that limit.)

 Suggestion to add river rock for our landing spray cleaning area to prevent mud.

o Motion by John Hansen for $500 seconded by Bob Miller.

Wake Boat Ordinance – Mark Hansen:

 There is already damage to the deep beds—they are gone, despite what seems like

“light” traffic on the lake. The reports throughout Wisconsin are showing worse than

anticipated.

 This is our ordinance. The DNR has no jurisdiction. We believe in the power of

education about wake boats. “You can’t do that here and here’s why…”

 Next steps would be to bring them to court; we need video evidence or clear static

photo evidence (clear enough to confirm boat).

o First offense is $500 and second is $2,000.

o Hopefully we never have to do it. Before you come to any Association member,

please try to talk to your neighbors.

 You can have the boat on the lake; you just can’t fill up the bladder and surf behind.

 Mark Hansen has spoken to the township attorney, and they haven’t had to go to court

yet.

 Additional ideas suggested to spread education:

o Ask people at the landing to pass out wake boat ordinance and study brochure.

o Make a bigger, more obvious sign by the landing.

o Could we add a second camera to the landing? All pictures go to Mark Hansen

and will consider a photo storage system.

The Lake Association is trying to protect your property value! It’s our lake to protect.

Volunteers are always needed: Be sure to volunteer! We have a thriving Association if we have

the volunteers.

Connect more members and your children and grandchildren to become passionate about

caring for our lake. It’s up to us to keep doing what we’re doing.

If you have ideas that would enhance the lake, present them to the Association. Please get

involved!

Closing – Mark Hansen
