Lipsett Lake Association Fall Meeting
September 2, 2017
The general meeting of the Lipsett Lake Association was called to order by the President, Greg Heber, at 9:01 AM at the Lipsie Pines Tavern. Approximately thirty-nine members were in attendance. Greg opened the meeting and thanked all for attending.
Mark Schlitter presented the treasurer’s report highlighting the net income and detailing the revenue and expenses from January 1, 2017 through September 2, 2017. A motion to approve the reports was made by John Hansen, seconded by Bruce Nelson, and approved by unanimous voice vote of the membership. Mark made note of the excellent job of fund raising at the summer brat feed which resulted in $1,593 collected from the sale of donated items. Another $540 was received from members in unsolicited donations.
Bruce Nelson presented the minutes from the spring, 2017, meeting for approval. A motion to approve the minutes was made by Chuck Edwards and seconded by Grace Huth. The voted was opposed by one vote, Sally Nelsen, and therefore was not approved. Sally raised the question as to whether the minutes were available on the blog.
Committee Repots
Children’s Fishing Contest – Snyders Chris reported that there were no submissions to the contest this past summer.
Loon Ranger – Donna Twining Donna reported that only one seasonal loon offspring was spotted this year. Some members reported seeing the offspring as recently as this week.
Membership – Grace Huth and Ruth Baker Grace reported that paid membership is down nine members from the total paid membership from 2016. It is not known if the raise in dues from $25 to $50 is affecting membership. There are two new members from sales this fall; Lot number 1 in the Palmer Lane and Kirk Hexum’s. The zebra mussel pamphlet was mailed to all know addressees on the lake this summer. Approximately eighty members have paid 2017 dues.
Fundraising – Aaron and Holly Tempel Aaron thanked all who attended the corn and brat feed. He also thanked John and Lisa Hansen for hosting the event on their property and Mark and Mary Hansen and Mark’s band for provided the musical entertainment. Tempel’s fund raising ideas generated $1,593 at this event. He noted we also received one donation for $250. The idea of a meat raffle was brought up, but thought it may be too saturated in the area to be effective. The need for pictures for the calendar was emphasized which should be submitted by October 14th. The response to the annual dock-out was only one volunteer and only one request to take a dock out. A member suggested that October 14th is too early for most to pull their docks. The stated fee is $2 per foot of dock and $50 per lift. Aaron asked all to think of auction items and plan ahead for next year’s auction.
Social – Greg Heber The annual golf outing is scheduled to September 16th. The cost is $45 for a cart, golf, and prizes. Sixteen people have already signed up. Greg suggested the need for more winter photos for the calendar, rather than all spring, summer, and fall. The location for the Christmas party and the date are still unsettled. The Labor Day tie-up is tonight starting at seven. Please bring a dish to pass and a beverage.
Lake Management – Bob Baker Bob reported one patch of Purple Loose Leaf this summer near Chris Snyder’s location on the lake, and he removed and disposed of the vegetation. It has been reported that 300 – 400 zebra mussels were found in Big McKenzie this summer. Zebra mussels have spread form Big to Middle McKenzie Lake. All three tests done on Lipsett Lake have come back negative for the veligers. The idea of providing a self-cleaning station at our access was discussed. The membership also discussed cameras, outside monitoring services, and new signage for the landing. Chis Snyder made a motion to spend no more than $1,000 for a motion activated camera and new sign at the access to foster adherence to cleaning boats, trailers, and live wells before and after entering the lake. It was again noted that the three primary services that deliver and pick-up watercraft from the lake do have separate trailers from those used in nearby affected lakes. Members also reported possible problems from kayaks and other crafts that don’t use the access. All these concerns will be re-visited at future meeting.
President’s Report
Greg thanked the Tempels for fund raising duties and for a job well done. He emphasized the continuing need for volunteers to staff our existing activities and to expand our efforts to protect the lake. He also encouraged efforts to increase membership by existing property owners. Greg noted the need for more pictures for the 2017 calendar, especially more winter photos to round out the seasons. Greg announced the July 4th winners of the boat parade as follows: Patriotic - Warrens first place and Schlitters second place Original – Bultnicks.
Old Business
An inquiry was made about this summer’s Curly Pondweed survey. Bob Baker stated the survey was done, but the results were not known. He will check on what the results were.
New Business
Election of Officers – Grace Huth nominated Lisa Hansen to continue as a Director, Carolyn Schlitter to continue as a Director, Ellen Baudhuin as a new Director, and Charles & Nancy Pillsbury as new Co-Secretaries. All were elected by a unanimous vote.
Nominating Chair – Grace Huth is resigning from this position. We will look for a new candidate for this position.
Meeting was adjourned at 9:55 AM Report submitted by Bruce Nelson, Secretary
