Information from the DNR

Jon & I were out on the water today and noticed at least 70 dead crappies and a few dead Blue Gill and Sunnies.
I called the DNR and got Craig Roberts. (Fish life person)
He said it is probably a bacteria, Columnaris.  We have had the right conditions for this bacteria to thrive
naturally.  He sent me the following email.

See this link for a brief description of Columnaris: http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/fishing/fishhealth/columnaris.html .  As I said, it is naturally occurring and generally happens this time of the year.  I appreciated the report and will make note of the information you provided in our fish kill database.

Anyone coming up this weekend may find dead fish on their shore.   Hopefully this doesn't get worse.
He thinks the crappies are most susceptible because they have just spawned and are weak right now.
Please pass this on in the blog
Thanks
Grace
