President’s Report
Greg noted the need for improved lake etiquette and informing boaters of the DNR rules for safe boating. On several occasions, boaters/pwc had been operating too close to pontoon tie-ups, fisherpersons, and others to create a potential for accidents for just disturbing others doing lake activities. Concerning the lake management plan, we are due to re-map the entire lake next year for curly leaf pondweed. We need to evaluate if the identified CLP areas have increased, decreased, moved, or we have new areas of growth. Our lake association has received a lot of positive feedback for its aggressive programs and quality of member backed actions to improve our lake. We need continued high membership and volunteerism to keep our ongoing fundraising and clean lake programs staffed and effective. Greg encouraged new people to volunteer to staff committees and fundraising programs. He also needs a host for next year’s corn and brat feed.
Committee Repots
Fundraising – Tanya Ives The dock-out costs $2 per foot and $50 per boat lift. We need volunteers (like younger) for this activity tentatively set for October 10th. The 50/50 raffle was won this year by Tom Boehne and he donated his winnings to the association. Thanks to Tom! We need pictures for the calendar next year. Please check the blog to view pictures and information on submitting photos.
Lake Management – Bob Baker The Clean Boats Clean Water program was successful this year with only one employee for most of the season. Please personally thank Russell if you have an opportunity. We need a new employee next year as Russell is off to college. We were noted by the Burnett County Lake Assn. for the number of healthy lake activities we engage in and are considered a “unique” association. Purple loose leaf was eradicated in the shallow water area near Kirk Hexum’s totaling twelve plants or 100 stems. Bob and others also found and sprayed a new area of PLF near Kunzie cabin. Bob presented a slide slow and discussed the Healthy Lakes best practices native plantings program sponsored by the Wisconsin DNR. He explained this grant program for the seven native plantings options to control shoreline runoff and resulting pollution. Each project qualifies for up to $1,000 grant if approved by the DNR. The association will submit the application for cabin owners with a deadline if around November 15th.
Membership – Ruth Baker and Grace Huth Grace and Ruth sent letters to six new lake residents this year and five joined the association. They are also sending reminder letters to members who aren’t current on dues, and a letter to former members to re-join the association. It was noted that the blog indicates whether each member’s current dues have been paid. Ruth asked for any interest in “Under the Oriole’s Nest”, a historical book about early Lipsett Lake written by Jon’s grandfather.
Nominating – Grace Huth Grace asked for volunteers for the committee and five members stepped up. The positons open for election for next year are: Secretary, Vice President, and Director.
Social – Greg Heber Greg confirmed the social calendar remaining this year: tonight’s twilight boat parade, flotilla afterward with snacks and beverages; golf tournament September 19th, costing $45, drawing for prize; December 12th Christmas party at Lipsie. Who could ask for anything more!
New Business
Election of Officers: Vice President – Lisa Hansen Motion by Sally Nelsen, Second by Mark Schlitter elected by unanimous vote. Director – Bob Baker Motion by Bob Margo, second by Lynn Schlitter, elected by unanimous vote. Secretary – Bruce Nelson Motion by Sally Nelson, second by Mark Schlitter, elected by unanimous vote.
Old Business
Greg stated the milfoil scare was a false alarm. He advised members to ask association for help if there is any question identifying aquatic plants. He thanked Bob Baker and Tom Boehne for all the work involved in staffing and administering the Clean Boats Clean Water access program this year. We staffed the access for a total of 372 vs. 350 hours last year which resulted in spending approximately $500 more this year. He reminded all members any payment to the association are “donations”, NOT payments for goods or services. Greg asked us all to thank Charlie Edwards for four years of service. Greg expressed the need for cooperation and volunteers to keep the organization one of the strong and viable lake associations. Greg thanked all for attending.
Motion to adjourn was made by Bob Margo, seconded by Jon Hansen and approved by voice vote.
Meeting was adjourned at 10:05 AM Report submitted by Bruce Nelson, Secretary
