Clean Lake Clean Water Boat Landing Monitoring, Bob Baker
Paid inspectors from the Northwest Wisconsin CEP (Consolidated Employment program) are doing a great job but their contract just goes through the Labor Day weekend. Bob has checked and we will be eligible for a grant next year. A motion was made and passed to continue with this program.
This year we need volunteers to cover the month of September.
If you can help, please click on “Boat Landing Monitoring Sign-Up Sheet” page on the right side of this page. Just follow the instructions on that page -- it will guide you through signing up for a date that is open.
The decision was made to pay for Northwest Wisconsin CEP Inspectors for the whole season next year.
Children's Fishing Contest: The Childre's Fishing Contest ends after the Labor Day Weekend. If you haven't already done so, send in your children's entries, click on the Children's Fishing Contest Page on the right side of this page for instructions.

The Brat and Corn Feed was a great success even with the rain. Thanks to Steve and Judy Christener who welcomed us to come into Lipsett Pines with all our food and the band. They were delighted to have us -- (we may have spent a little money on liquid refreshment at the bar).
Pictures for the Lipsett Lake Photo Contest are due by October 19
Send them to Pam Loftus at pkloftus@centurytel.net at the highest resolution possible
Lake Management, Bob Baker
We were not able to get curly leaf pondweed mapped this summer so will do it next year. In the Aquatic Plant management plan we said if curly leaf ever spreads out to about 25% of the lake we would consider taking action.
No purple loostrife was confirmed on the lake this year.
Membership
Ruth Baker and Grace Huth volunteered to take over the membership committee.
Nominating Committee, Grace and Jon Huth
Vice President: Chuck Edwards will continue as VP
Secretary: Bruce Nelson replacing Tim Beardon
Director: Kirk Hexum replacing Doug Mulville
The Nominating Committee needs more volunteers. Contact Grace Huth at huth65@aol.comor 708-485-8077 if you would be willing to volunteer.
REMEMBER -- Your 2013 Dues are due I know that, with everything that is on people’s minds these days, it’s easy to forget whether you have paid or not. Just click on “current members” page on the right hand side of the this page to find out if you are current. If your name isn’t on the list, it means you haven’t paid. Just send your check for $25, payable to Lipsett Lake Association, to Don Loftus at dwloftus@centurytel.net or give him a call at 715-635-3594 if you have any questions.
Why should you join the Lake Association? What do you get from it?
If for no other reason, you should join the Lake Association to help them prevent Eurasion Milfoil and Zebra Mussels from invading this lake by monitoring the boat landing. The service is paid for through grants applied for by the lake association, and some money that comes from the dues we pay for the Lake Association. Eurasion Milfoil can completely cover a lake and costs thousands of dollars and a lot of time and manhours to just control it -- once it’s on the lake you cannot get rid of it. This is a case of “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”
But there are other reasons as well:
Your dues support an active lake association that is fighting to keep the invasive species, such as Eurasion Milfoil, Zebra Mussels and Purple Loostrive out of our lake, by providing boat monitoring to keep invasive species from entering the lake, checks the water temperature, clarity, phosphorus and chlorophyll; We contract with Burnett County Land and Water Conservation Department to do plant surveys. We also do our own surveys of Curlyleaf Pondweed with equipment purchased with your dues. Volunteeers find and kill Purple Loostrife which will take over all natural vegetation around the lake, vegetation that provides habitat for fish and water animals, if not controlled. Plants are disposed of by Cutting the heads off and putting them into a plastic bag for disposal. The place where the plant has been cut is sprayed with a herbicide supplied by the County Land and Water Conservation Department.
We are a member of the Burnett Lakes and Rivers Association which publishes and distributes the Lake Lines Newsletter to all Riparian owners and provides advice and directions for current lake issues We participate in the Northwest Lakes Conference which is paid for with your dues.
The Lake Association Sponsors:
A Christmas Party, a July 4 Parade and tie-up party, Brat and Corn Feed, Twilight Boat Parade and Tie-up Party to help people get to know their neighbors and enjoy Lipsett Lake.
The Children’s Fishing Contest to encourage children to learn to love to fish, to love the lake, and to spend quality time with moms, dads, grandparents, aunts, uncles and older friends or siblings.
Docks-In/Docks-Out Fundraiser, Photo Contest and Lipsett Lake Calendar fundraiser raise money to help with these projects, but we still need dues to supplement those efforts.
We contribute to the Sigurd Olson Environmental Institute as part of the Loon Watch Program.
We have two Lake Association meetings each year to help keep members informed. We maintain a Blog to keep all Lake Association information up to date.
We are a non-stock corporation in the State of Wisconsin and we are pursuing Federal Tax Exempt Status which will allow people to make tax deductible donations to the Lake Association and also keep us from paying Federal Taxes on income that we make.
If you see anything that needs to be added or changed in the above report, please just send a note to me at pkloftus@centurytel.net . I do my best, but I do need all of you to help me proofread and let me know if I have made an error.
