CLEAN BOATS, CLEAN WATER:  As most of you know, the Lipsett Lake Association has been monitoring the public landing at the south end of the lake on high-use and holiday weekends for the past five years. Our efforts are part of the state wide Clean Boats, Clean Waters program that is designed to prevent the introduction of invasive aquatic species into our lakes and rivers. Lipsett Lake already has two invasive aquatic plants, Curly leaf pondweed and Purple loosestrife and because Eurasian water milfoil has now been identified in 15 lakes in Burnett and adjacent Counties, we will need to be especially vigilant this summer. Eurasian water milfoil can form dense mats of vegetation that crowds out native vegetation, clogs boat propellers, and makes water recreation virtually impossible. Treatment of Eurasian water milfoil is extremely expensive. For instance, Beaver Dam Lake in Cumberland has been battling Eurasian water milfoil since 1987 with annual costs to the lake association membership of $100,000 annually for herbicide treatments and consulting services. Clearly, this is NOT something we want in Lipsett Lake.

In previous summers we have used volunteer sign-up methods that were not very satisfactory, and consequently, this summer have developed an on-line method thanks to the unstinting efforts of Wayne, Don, and Pam Loftus. This trio has developed a spreadsheet that will allow volunteers to sign up for 2-hour time blocks to monitor the public landing on the targeted days and have their names and times visible for all others who subsequently log-on to the spread sheet. This should completely eliminate the confusion of previous summers when multiple people unknowingly signed up to work the landing at the same times, leaving other time slots with no monitor coverage.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS TO SIGN UP NOW TO MONITOR BOATS FOR FISHING OPENER, SATURDAY MAY 7 AND SUNDAY MAY 8

The login method and directions on how to use the sign-up spreadsheet follows.

SPRING CLEAN UP -- Saturday April 30th. 9am
Come join us as we pick up the trash that has accumulated on the roads all around Lipsett Lake during the winter months. We meet at Lipsie Pines at 9am to get trash bags and clean up instructions. Remember to bring gloves and insect repellent. We have some sticks and grip extenders to keep from bending to help the back. All who participate will receive a free hamburger and beverage at McKenzie Landing afterwards.

DOCK-IN FUND RAISER
We will once again be holding the dock-in fund raiser. This has been our most successful Lipsett Lake fund raiser! If you haven't participated in the past, now is the time!

Dates: May 7th and May 21st
Cost: $2 per foot and $50 for a boat lift
How: Sign up by contacting me at tanya.ives@philips.com  or cell phone 612-554-0570.  Please let me know your name, a telephone number I can reach you at, and the date you would like us to put in your dock. A homeowner needs to be present while your dock is being put in. I will call you prior to your dock in date to let you know the approximate time we will be at your place.
Why: This is a great way to donate to the Lipsett Lake Association! Why pay someone else ….why suffer the sore muscles (let the volunteers do that!), put the money back into your lake!!

NOTE: I STILL NEED VOLUNTEERS.  PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU CAN HELP OUT. IT'S A GREAT WAY TO GET SOME EXERCISE AND WE USUALLY HAVE SOME ADULT BEVERAGES AFTERWARDS!!

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION AND BOAT PARADE
SUNDAY, JULY 3, 1:00 P.M.

The parade begins at the outlet and will travel counter-clockwise this year. To help the judges identify your boat, please display your boat number prominently on the right hand side of your boat, big enough for judges to see. Boat numbers are listed below. Numbers must be displayed in order to receive prizes and the boats must complete the whole parade in order to receive prizes. And prizes will be handed out on Monday the 4th.

When we return to the outlet, the parade will double back on itself so that everyone will have an opportunity to see the other boats.

First and Second Place Prizes will be given for the Most Patriotic and the Most Original boat decorations. We still need judges! Please email Greg at gheber@industriallumber.net  or call him at 612-282-8097.

TIE-UP PARTY -- Will begin a half hour after the parade is over so that everyone has an opportunity to remove their decorations and grab their dishes to pass. The exact location will depend on the wind. Just look for the “Island of boats” somewhere on the lake and join us. Please bring a dish to pass -- finger foods work best.

The 10 Mile Creek Band will be performing again. Come by foot, car, or boat. We will be having a 50/50 raffle again. Bring a dish to share. For yourself you will need beverage of choice, silverware, chair, money for raffle. Everyone had a GREAT time last year -- don't miss this event this summer. RSVP to Greg at gheber@industriallumber.net  or 612-282-8097 by July 18 so we can have an idea of how many ears of corn and how many brats and buns we will need.

TWILIGHT BOAT PARADE
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 7:00 P.M.
Join us in the middle of the lake for cocktails. Please bring a dish to pass and your own beverages. The parade begins around 8:30. You are encouraged to decorate your boat with lights. This is a beautiful way to end the summer season on the lake.

CALENDAR PHOTO CONTEST
We received amazing feedback regarding the first 2011 Lipsett Lake Calendar! So, we are planning on doing another calendar for 2012. That means you need to keep taking those photos and dig through the ones you already have. Photos can be submitted to Pam Loftus at pkloftus@centurytel.net . Please send the photos as an attachment and note who took the photo.

We still have four 2011 calendars left, so if you don't already have one or need another……….contact Tanya Ives at tanya.ives@philips.com  or 612-554-0570. Calendars are $20. They turned out fantastic and we know you need something to write all those fun summer activities on!!

CLASSIFIED AD PLACEMENT ON THE LIPSETT LAKE BLOG
You can now place a classified ad on the Lipsett Lake Blog (http://lipsettlakeassociation.blogspot.com ) by contacting Pam Loftus at pkloftus@centurytel.net .  This is a great way to advertise a service you provide, a garage sale, something you have to sell or something you might be looking for. The Fund Raising Committee is recommending a $5 donation to the Lipsett Lake Association for an ad placement. Please send a check to Doris Perry at 26505 W. Lipsett Lake Rd., Spooner, WI 54801 with a note telling her what it is for.

2011 LIPSETT LAKE DUES ARE DUE: Your dues are used to pay for postage and printing of newsletters for those people who don’t have email -- to maintain and replace buoys that mark shallow water spots on the lake -- for prizes for contests during the year -- to help with expenses for the Brat and Corn feed -- and for other miscellaneous expenses during the year. If you have not paid your dues for this year, please send $25 to Doris Perry at 26505 W. Lipsett Lake Rd., Spooner, WI 54801. If you aren‘t sure if you are up to date with your dues, call Doris at 715-635-2454.

ADDRESSES: If you have not received this newsletter by email or on the Blog, it means that we do not have your correct email address. If you have an email address -- PLEASE send it to us. It saves a lot of money in postage and printing, and a lot of volunteer time to prepare it and get it in the mail. In addition, if we have news during the year or if the date of an event changes or if we add an event that you might be interested in, it may only be sent out by email. We also post some fun pictures of activities on the lake, of children fishing, and of the Photo Contest. You can find these by going to the blog at www.lipsettlakeassociation.blogspot.com and clicking on the pages listed on the right side of the main page, or scrolling down the main page for pictures of general interest that have been posted. ALSO -- if your home address or phone number has changed, please let us know. You can email it to me at pkloftus@centurytel.net, call me (Pam Loftus) at 715-635-3594, or send it to me at 26610 Brede Lane, Spooner, WI.
