LAKE MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE REPORT
After a 2 year hiatus while the Aquatic Plant Management Plan was being developed, the Lake Management Committee is being reformed to take over scheduling of the Clean Boats, Clean Waters monitoring of our public access, continue eradicating purple loosestrife, become proficient in aquatic plant identification, and to encourage shoreline preservation/restoration and the use of rain gardens to minimize runoff into Lipsett Lake. Bob Baker, Kirk Hexum, Don Loftus, Doug Mulville, Dave Trickett, and Greg Heber have agreed to serve.
Purple Loosestrife report: This summer we had two small outbreaks of purple loosestrife. Four plants were discovered and removed on the southwest side of Lipsett Lake and one plant was found on the southeast side. This is a huge improvement from two years ago when between 20 and 30 plants were removed along the southwest shoreline.
We had an opportunity to participate in a Burnett County Lakes and Rivers Association (BCLRA) grant to put an I-LID monitoring camera on our public access to discourage boaters from entering/leaving the lake with aquatic plants on their trailers and boats. However, our Board of Directors decided not to participate because our Aquatic Plant Management Plan still has not been approved by the DNR and the required monthly maintenance costs to have a qualified individual review the tapes from the camera and issue citations to violators.
The BCLRA has made Youth Field Journals available this summer to all Burnett County lake associations for $5.00 each. These are designed for the enjoyment of young guests at your cabin and are filled with engaging activities. Contact Bob Baker (robert.w.baker@uwrf.edu) or 635-3882 if you are interested in purchasing one or more copies.

CHILDREN'S FISHING CONTEST:
The 2010 Lipsett Lake fishing contest was a huge success. Although there may be less fish in the lake, these little anglers are all about the water and their fish. From our youngest contestant to our older angler, these kids will give us all a run for our money.
Thank you to:
Jake Margo, Ryan Snyder, Andrew Snyder, Peyton Irsfeld, Harrison Irsfeld, Kody Dacas, Cole Dacas, Maddie Margo, Austin Collins, Camden Sharp, Conner Sharp, Lily Canny, Jack Canny, Maddy Canny, Will McClannahan, Jacob McDermott, Isaiah LaFleur-Gray, Leah Sharp, Nathaniel Loftus, Nick Stefan, Brandon Edwards and Lilly Taylor for participating.
The winners of the contest were:

Where are all the Walleye in the lake? I guess they are being scared!
Congratulations to all of our fisher people! All of the anglers received a certificate and McDonalds gift card and the winners of the contest received a $10 Target Gift Card so that they can get more fishing gear and tackle for next year.
See you in the Spring!
LAKE TALES:
A great fishing story from Chuck Edwards: Chuck wrote: “Brandon was so proud to get the
Mc Donald’s gift certificates from the fishing contest. The first thing he said was “I want to take the family out for dinner.” He made a big production out of paying at the counter while pulling his wallet out (Dad slipped the cashier the balance of the bill, I think without Brandon’s knowing). I thought that was a pretty neat little story to hear from my brother.”
Injured Goose Taken to Animal Shelter: On October 16 Linda Stark and Kirk Hexum organized a rescue mission for the injured goose, known to many as "Hoppy", that has been on Lipsett Lake for most of the summer. Greg Heber, Bob Baker, Paul Christopherson, and Payton Ray joined Linda and Kirk and eventually captured Hoppy on the southwest side of the lake on October 16. Linda and Kirk transported the goose, with the help of Sandy Meister, to the Raptor Center in St. Paul. When the vets checked him over, unfortunately they discovered his leg injury and numerous old wounds were too extensive for hope of recovery and return to the wild. Consequently, they had to put him down. All participants were saddened by the outcome, but realize this was a more desirable result than attack by a predator or freezing later this fall.
