LIPSETT LAKE NEWSLETTER, JUNE 2010

INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION
AND BOAT PARADE
SATURDAY, JULY 3, 1:00 P.M.
The parade begins at the outlet.

The parade will travel clockwise this year. To help the judges identify your boat, please display your boat number prominently on the left hand side of your boat, big enough for judges to see. Your boat number is on your mailing label.

When we return to the outlet, the parade will double back on itself so that everyone will have an opportunity to see the other boats.

First and Second Place Prizes will be given for the Most Patriotic and the Most Original boat decorations. We still need judges! Please email Greg at gheber@industriallumber.net or call him at 952-431-1277.

TIE-UP PARTY -- Will begin right after the parade, the exact location will depend on the wind. Just look for the “Island of boats” somewhere on the lake and join us. Please bring a dish to pass -- finger foods work best.

BRAT AND CORN FEED JULY 31
Starts at 3:00 p.m., BAND starts at around 7:00 p.m.
at Kirk Hexum’s, 26180 W. Lipsett Lake Rd.
Come by land or water! Please bring a dish to pass, something to drink, tableware, and a lawn chair. Everyone on the lake is invited -- including house guests. Invite your neighbors to come with you! Mark your calendar now! Be sure to contact Greg Heber at
952-431-1277 or gheber@industriallumber.net to let him know how many will be coming so they will have an idea of how many brats and ears of corn to have on hand.

TWILIGHT BOAT PARADE -- SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 4 , 7:30 PM
Join us in the middle of the lake at around 7:30 PM for cocktails. The parade will begin there at around 8:30 PM. You can decorate your boat with lights if you want. Or you can just use your navigational lights. Either way will be festive! We look forward to a beautiful star-lit evening, good company, and a nice cruise around the lake. A “Grand Finale” to another wonderful summer of fun on Lipsett Lake! AND the participation from people on shore last year was GREAT!!!!

Lake Management Committee Report on the Aquatic Management Plan Vote:
We sent out 97 ballots and received 63 back, with the YES votes tallying 53 and the NO votes tallying 10. The vote counters were Doris Perry, Greg Heber, Tanya Ives, and Don and Pam Loftus. The APM now moves to the DNR for final approval. Once approved we will need volunteers for AIS training and we will need volunteers to help map the lake and measure the curly leaf pondweed. The primary goal of the APM is to prevent invasive aquatic species from entering the lake. Below are the six goals of the APM:
1. Prevent the introduction and spread of aquatic invasive species.
2. Reduce and control the population of curly leaf pondweed and purple loosestrife.
3. Enhance and maintain the diverse populations of native aquatic plants.
4. Maintain and improve water quality conditions.
5. Educate the Lipsett Lake community regarding aquatic plant management, management strategies found in the plan and appropriate plant management actions.
6. Create and maintain navigable channels for fishing and boating.

Nominating Committee: Nominations are needed for the following positions: President (2 years), Director (3 years), Treasurer (2 years) and Secretary (beginning at the Annual Meeting and continuing through 2011). If you are interested in having your name put in nomination for one of these positions or if you have someone you would like to nominate -- or if you would just like to find out what the duties for these positions are, please call Sally Nelsen at (lake) 635-3789 or (home) 507 451-5244.

Fundraising Committee: The committee is creating a calendar which will be sold as part of its fundraising efforts. To help with this effort, they are having a photo contest of pictures you have taken in the past, or pictures you will be taking this summer, fall and winter of activities or nature on and around Lipsett Lake. Examples -- kids fishing with grandpa or an aunt or a brother -- families or friends having a party on their boat -- people waterskiing or jet skiing -- wildlife (forest and fauna) -- ice fishing -- or just a beautiful picture of the lake. Send your pictures to Tanya Ives at 8448 Powers Place, Chanhassen, MN 55317 or email them to her at Tanya.ives@philips.com. The winners’ pictures will be used to illustrate the different months on the calendar.

Children’s Fishing Contest Remember, this isn’t about catching the biggest fish or winning a contest -- it’s about sharing your love of the outdoors -- of Lipsett Lake -- and of fishing with the children in your life. There are prizes for children who enter the contest and entry forms are available at the C&R Store. Whether or not you decide to enter your child’s fish in the contest, be sure to send pictures of your little anglers to Marianne Andrews, 1186 Palmer Lane, Spooner, WI 54801, so she can publish them in a future Lipsett Lake Newsletter. We all love to watch children learn to love Lipsett Lake.

If you send me your email at dwloftus@centurytel.net, I will send you a note whenever there is important new information posted on this blog
